Michael Van Patten has been one of the top dance teachers in Southern California since 1988. He has taught at the legendary studios, DeFore Dance Center (1988-2016) and Tremaine Dance Center (1993-1997), as well as the University of California, Irvine, Santa Ana College, Fine Arts Academy of Dance, and many others. As a performer, he appeared on Star Search, Disney's Motor Car Mania Show, and with the Los Angeles Opera Company's acclaimed staging of “Orpheus in the Underworld,” as well as the musicals Gypsy (Tulsa), Pippin, Evita, Mame, The Robber Bridegroom, Sugar, Cabaret, and Tommy. He has also adjudicated for many dance competitions and organizations, including United Spirit Association (USA), Dance Rave, Kids Artistic Revue (KAR), That's Dancin', and many others. He has choreographed for numerous stage concerts and events for DeFore, Tremaine, UCI, Fine Arts Academy, Goldenwest College, University of Colorado, Greeley, J's Hair Studio World Tour, and the Los Angeles Clippers Dance Team. As a youngster, Michael studied music performance up to the age of twenty and played flute professionally, most notably with the Crystal Cathedral Symphony in the early ‘80's. Michael is also a writer/director, currently creating projects for film and television. His first success, The Watchers, is currently playing on the Film Festival circuit, and recently won the Best Sci-Fi Short Film Award at the Independent Filmmakers Showcase. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2006.
